Bryan White
Bryan White joins the Iowa Lightning for his third season in 2010. White has been in the Oskaloosa Community School system since 1997. An accomplished Math teacher, White also has served as Head Coach of Class 4A Oskaloosa’s varsity girls basketball program and is currently coaching in the Oskaloosa varsity boy’s basketball program. Coach White is also the girl’s golf coach in Oskaloosa and does the TV commentary on Mahaska Communication Group coverage of Oskaloosa varsity football.
Coach White was an exceptional athlete in high school (Tri-Center) where he was a three sport standout. He was the second baseman on a State Championship and State Runner-Up in baseball and a shooting guard on a State Runner-Up finish in basketball. He grew up in a basketball family as evidenced by his father’s selection as a coach to the Iowa High School Girl’s Basketball Hall of Fame. Upon graduating from high school, White attended William Penn University where majored in Physical Education. While at WPU, White was a standout point guard for the Statesmen and was also named the MVP of the tennis team.
Coach White has developed several outstanding players at Oskaloosa including recent All State selections Tyler Sash and Brittney Carlson. He is noted for his outstanding basketball camps he manages and the strong fundamental programs he puts in place. It is not uncommon for Coach White to spend many hours in the summer mornings on an individual basis with athletes who want to improve their game. Coach White has also been active in youth programs in the community and started the girls Young Stars program which teaches basketball fundamentals for girls in grades 3-6. He also teaches boys the skills of basketball in the Iowa Thunder organization for grades 3-6.
Coach White is married to his wife Rene and they have three children, Skyler, Brianne and Brooke. The Iowa Lightning is thrilled to welcome back Coach White and look forward to the many contributions that he will bring to our program.
